"In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it...." "...So the Word became... human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son."
How can anyone ever grasp the enormity of these statements from Johns gospel? In the beginning.....how long ago was that, where was that?...The Word already existed in the beginning...how can that be???? The Word was with God...where were they and why were they there and not somewhere else???? Wait...the Word was with God and now the Word is "HE" and He is GOD??? And Now God, who is He, who was the Word, creates everything through the Word who is now He who is also God???.. And He who was the Word but now is the God who created everything that exists also gave life to everything that is alive and brought an inextinguishable light to the world.... And after all that the Word who became He and is also God became flesh??? How can a simple person like me ever hope to understand this???
I cannot explain all the how's and whys and where's of these "Simple" scriptures but because of another simple verse of scripture in the book of Hebrews I have no problem believing them and I am encouraged by the fact that those who have not accepted Jesus do not and cannot accept them as truth, "By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen." I am simply grateful that the Word who became He and is God has given me the gift of faith and has allowed me the honor of seeking out the mysteries hidden within the "Word", and even though I may never understand these mysteries here in this life, I can without wavering believe them to be truth.
