OF THE
PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE
The so called
bipartisan budget bill is being hailed as a good step in the “right direction”
for America. Paul Ryan and Patty Murray worked together to put a budget
together that both say was difficult but necessary, both also say neither side
got what they wanted but both, along with the leadership in both houses are
elated by the “deal”.
One group of people who are not happy with it
are those who have sacrificed the most for the United States; veterans. It seems
that in order to advance the fiscal wellbeing of Congress (not America) they
find it necessary to cut the retirement benefits of veterans. I find this
action to be deplorable and a national disgrace.
All who have served this country deserve the benefits
they were promised when they enlisted and to even consider reneging on those benefits
should be grounds for removal from office.
If anyone deserves a cut in pay or benefits it
is those who got us into the mess we are in in the first place. Congressmen
make $170,000.00 per year plus extravagant benefits and an outrageous
retirement package after serving only a few short years (I use the term ‘serving’
very lightly).
Congress and the ‘President’ waste more money
in one week than they want to cut from veterans’ retirement package but their
wasteful pet projects are what get them re-elected and of course re-election
trumps the good of the nation.
America is being ruined by self-serving
elitists who need a wakeup call from “We The People”. This republic is dying a
slow painful death because we have allowed politicians from both parties to
gain power that was never meant to be held by anyone but the citizenry. They
have forgotten that they work for us and it is time to remind them that the
government our founders gave us was meant to be one of, by and for the people
not one which lords itself over the people.
I urge everyone who reads this to make
contact with your representatives and tell them that betraying our veterans is
unacceptable and if someone has to suffer a pay cut it better be them. If we do
not speak with one voice we will see our children suffer the consequences of
our inaction. Generational theft must end and those responsible must be held to
account for stealing our children’s future. SAVING AMERICA is fast becoming an
impossible task and the longer we procrastinate on demanding a response from
Congress and the president the more improbable it will become.
So true!!
